Friday Favorites: New Year, New Look, New Regime

11 January 2013

We're hereeeee. Friday after a full week of post-holiday work. Getting back on routine was tough, but it brought me to some new happy things that are helping me embrace that the holidays are over and 2013 has brought fun additions to my daily life.

Here's a hodge podge of things that got me through this week:

A New Look for Pancakes & Beet Juice!

I've had a desire to do some mini projects on the blog layout to bring it closer visually to how I feel when I'm writing it, but it took a while to know what that was. I'm a "know it when I see it" kind of gal and while I love so many people's blog designs, it took me a while to find all the little details that felt like my own. Inspiration finally hit this week and I started working on some small tweaks that I hope help you and new readers get to know me better! I would love to know what you think!

SheReadsTruth

She Reads Truth

I had heard great things about this daily devotional site geared towards young women and decided to try it for the new year as a way to stay more focused on the real priorities during the week. I've added it to my bookmark at work and my five minutes here with a coffee or after lunch cup of tea have come to be one of my favorite moments in the day. It's a great resource for girls like me who are too over scheduled (or, let's face it in my case, socially awkward) for Bible study, and the instragram and twitter conversations are a great way to meet some inspirational young women online! The Dick Van Dyke Show

This was one of my favorite shows growing up (right behind Bewitched). We recently broke up with Uverse in an effort to cut distractions and bulk up some savings, and I was thrilled to see this my old pals on Hulu Plus! Markus had never seen an episode before and now he's requesting it too. Why do people throw around June and Ward when it's really all about Rob and Laura? Sally Rogers is added female inspiration on how to hold your own in the boy's club at work. It's a true American classic!

New Revas

I had a pair of Tory Burch Reva flats a few years ago until four days before Christmas when, after a horrible day at work, I came home to learn that Little Child had opened the door to my room and ate them. I cried off and on for the rest of the week. Plus we had to call the family holding the baby goat I was supposed to get for Christmas and tell them we couldn't take on any more animals that ate things. Basically, a complete tragedy. This Christmas I was redeemed and Santa brought a new pair! (No goats yet, though) I love the tone on tone designs that are more suited for my (attempted) crunchy chic style. They match my Longhorn Fashions burnt orange skinny jeans and my Modalu Pippa bag perfectly! I was *almost* excited to get back on the work train last week so I could wear them to the office.

A safe and happy weekend to you all! What were your favorites this week?

  1. Love the new design! You have inspired me to get finished w/ my own ^_^

Thanks for the info about the devotional. I am going to have to check that out.

Also, I'm a huge Dick Van Dyke fan. I even saw him - in person - in Washington DC a few years ago. He did a Dick Van Dyke crazy-leg dance for the crowd and it was incredible!

  2. Love the new blog design -- it's hip and fun just like you! :)

I also love the Dick Van Dyke show but it's been years since I've seen it. Rob and Laura really are better than June and Ward!! Maybe I need to start introducing my kids to that show. They recently discovered the Brady Bunch and think it's so great -- cracks me up that they like some of the oldies.

Anyway...Happy New Year and I'm so sorry about the shoes!

  3. Fun new design! Loving the citrus colors!

I'm so excited about She Reads Truth. I've added it to Google Reader. Thanks for that tip!

Totally agree about The Dick Van Dyke Show. I've long loved Mary Tyler Moore. The two of them were perfect together. I've caught a few episodes of The Cosby Show lately, and I forgot how good that show was.

I'm sorry that you couldn't get a baby goat, but I love your tone-on-tone Revas! They're classic!

  4. Hi!

I discovered your blog today (someone had linked to it on Pinterest), and I must admit it consumed my entire evening! I too am in the stage of life where my husband and my sweet little puppy are all I need for a great evening. My husband and I recently moved to Dallas to become awkward grownups, and your blog just became my Dallas bible for our foodie adventures and date nights out!
