As I wrote about last week, I've begun working with the fair trade, woman owned site Noonday Collection in an ambassador position to help promote and sell their jewelry, home and gift items that are all made by women in developing countries seeking employment to work out of poverty and repression. I knew from learning about Noonday that their business model and values was completely in sync with mine as a shopper and advocate. After getting my first round of samples in last week, I've realized how well their items really fit with and enhance my style - whether it's running errands or more dressed up at the office!
Here are a few ways I've been wearing my Noonday this week:
Global Grocery Run:
I wore my Acai Rope Necklace layered with the Urban Knot Necklace and the Tagua Seed Bracelet with a heather knit tunic, boyfriend jeans and sandals (yes, I love living in Texas in February!) for one of my Whole Foods couponing extravaganzas. Of course I received compliments and I loved sharing the special stories behind these pieces!
Modern Day Marlo Thomas:
I love this bright orange wool skirt that I got on clearance from the Gap, because when I wear it with thick tights I feel like Marlo Thomas in That Girl. I decided to give it a more modern age twist for a work event last week by adding the Tagua Seed Bracelet and the Urban Knot Necklace. I really loved the Urban Knot against a solid color - you can really see all the different metals and details!
Bohemian Board Room:
Last week at work I had a presentation with some of the senior leadership team. This emerald dress is comfortable, professional and on trend in the color of the year. I added some of my usual personality with the Violet Horn Bracelet. This bracelet has been a big surprise for me, because I liked it on the site but now that it's here I seriously can't get enough of it! It goes with everything, it is a show stopper (people can tell at a glance how unique it is and love to ask about it), and it is really comfortable and light, which if you are a statement jewlery person like me is a real bonus. Paired with my jade ring and some neutral flats, I really loved the jewel tone look I had going on!
Saturday's Socially Conscious Stripes:
Last Saturday Markus and I putzed around town and stopped to get some salads for lunch. I was super comfortable but I thought fairly fun and stylish at the same time in my striped sweater that I got in the Gap after-Christmas sale, boyfriend jeans, red TOMS and Noonday. I have on the Stacked Arrows Necklace. It is the perfect length, hitting right around/below my chest, and I love that when I run into friends that I've told about Noonday, they say, "The arrows necklace! That is the one I wanted to see!" I have it paired with the Tagua Seed Bracelet (again!), a Kendra Scott ring and my Modalu Pippa bag.
Professional with Pops of Color:
This one is another work outfit. I wore a uniform to school for around a million years, and I basically still rock one today in my slim fit, stright leg pants (from the Gap or Minnies from J. Crew) and pressed oxford shirts with flats. I punched it up last week by adding some more colorful loafers than I usually wear (bought last year at Urban Outfitters) and the Mediterranean Sea Necklace. I love all the cool details on this chain and the beads that they use on the embellishment are each so pretty. Seeing it in person, it is difficult to believe that this pretty statement piece is less than $40! I loved the turqoiuse and the coral working together against a neutral backdrop such as my trusty work uniform.
These are just some of the ways that I have loved adding color and meaning to my outfits recently with Noonday Collection! Just to explain how everything works, the artisans sell their pieces to Noonday Collection at fair trade prices. Ambassadors (like me) earn 20% commission from their sites when they share the items as adovates for the mission. I personally want to make this an opportunity to continue paying it forward, so I am splitting my comissions with women friends who are doing their own projects to fundraise for their choice causes. If you shop this week, 10% of your sale will go to our friend Shelley who is running a half marathon in Austin this week to raise money for Juvenille Diabetes Research Fund, a cause that is important to her as a young adult who has lived with Type 1 Diabetes herself. Who wants to join me in helping women overseas while supporting women's projects here this week as we get Shelley to her fundraising goal? (You all say: Me! Me me me me!!) :o)
What are some of your favorite ways to add more personality to your day wear?
